Civil Rights Movement 50th
2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement in Columbia, SC.
Throughout the year, Columbia SC 63 will join seven cities in the Southeast in commemorating the courage and sacrifice of the countless ordinary citizens who risked everything to march toward freedom and force the nation to live up to its democratic ideals. In partnership with Historic Columbia Foundation, University of South Carolina and City of Columbia, Columbia, SC will rediscover and remember the Civil Rights Movement with events, cultural programs and historical retrospectives throughout the entire year to recognize the individuals and iconic moments that moved our nation "Fifty Years Forward."
Our story matters. Join us as we rediscover the past, uncover new stories, and come to a better understanding of this pivotal chapter in American history.
