Eclipse Day at EdVenture

Come mingle with astronaut characters, learn the science behind the solar eclipse and party on the patio as we gather together for this rare event. Come early as the first 1,000 visitors get free solar glasses provided by Google. EDDIE's eyes will be on the sky! Activities include:

Patio Party: EdVenture Terrace - 1 pm – 4 pm: Join us for music, games, activities, eclipse viewing and more as we enter totality together. The eclipse will begin at 1:13 p.m. with totality beginning at 2:41 p.m.

 

  • DJ Music
  • Pin Hole Camera and Prisms - Talk about sun light and how it changes during the eclipse.
  • Solar Telescope - Talk about sunspots and solar flares.
  • Galaxy Pinwheels - Make your own pinwheel to display our galaxy cosmic dance.
  • Eclipse Chalk Art - Make your own Solar Corona Art.
  • Face Painting

 

Create A Solar System Mobile - Bio Lab (10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m.) Make your own mobile symbolizing our solar system and learn about the planets you might see during the eclipse.

Design an Eclipse Model - Tinker Tech (10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:15 p.m.) Get hands on in understanding what happens during the eclipse and build your own model.

Solar Eclipse Show - In Front of EDDIE (10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m.) How does an eclipse happen? Why is it such a big deal? What should we expect to see? Answer these questions and more as we explore the Solar Eclipse.

Phases of the Moon Cookies - The Cooking Lab (11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m. *Sign-up at the Front Desk for one of the limited spots.) Come frost your own cookie to learn about the phases of the moon.

Marshmallow Constellation Art - Aha! Factory (9:30 a.m.– 1:30 p.m.) Study the constellations you may see during the eclipse, then design your own starry sky out of marshmallows and toothpicks.

Home Safe Home - World of Work (9:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m.) This 4-D multimedia experience is not only entertaining but also teaches families to be better aware of fire prevention methods and how to react in home emergency situations.

Pop-up Activities - Lobby hallway (throughout the day)

 

  • Rockets! - We be talking about force and motion and how we use rockets to get out of the Earth's atmosphere. Try launching a foam rocket.
  • Solar System ... with Household Objects - If the Sun was the size of a door, how far and what size would the planets be?
  • Science of Solar Ovens.
