The public is invited to explore “More Than a Southern Author: Influences and Impact in the Works of Ron Rash,” an exhibit drawn from the recently acquired Rash archive, at the University of South Carolina Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library Gallery. Rash, an internationally-acclaimed bestselling writer and South Carolina native, authored the 2009 PEN/Faulkner finalist and the New York Times bestselling novel, “Serena.” His story, “Burning Bright” won the 2010 Frank O’Connor international Short Story Award, and “Chemistry and Other Stories” was a finalist for the 2007 PEN/Faulkner Award.

Rash is a two-time recipient of the O’Henry Prize, and was recently awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship for 2017. Rash was awarded USC’s Thomas Cooper Medal for distinction in literature. The Ron Rash Archive spans the writer’s life from boyhood to the present, details his career as a poet, short story writer and novelist, and joins other contemporary American literature collections at the library including that of Pat Conroy, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. Once processed by university archivists, the entire collection will be available to the public.
