Columbia City Ballet – An Introduction
Columbia City Ballet’s mission is clear: to offer South Carolina and Southeastern audiences the highest quality ballet and to provide dancers with only the best professional dance training. We in South Carolina can proudly claim one of the strongest and most versatile ballet companies in the region and in the country.

William Starrett’s influence as Executive & Artistic Director of Columbia City Ballet - only the second in the company’s history - has transformed it into a professional company with 32 paid dancers and nearly 2,000 season members. Under the leadership of Mr. Starrett, the Ballet produces what critics have described as “some of the highest quality cultural entertainment in the Southeast.” The Company attracts not only audiences from all over the region that are eager to attend performances, but also quality dancers from all over the country and the world eager to be a part of such an accomplished ballet company. Mr. Starrett offers dancers and audiences the opportunity to perform and watch classical ballets as well as his brilliant original, full-length productions such as Dracula, Beauty & the Beast and Don Juan.

Since the Columbia City Ballet's founding in 1961, it has integrated the world of dance within the lives of Columbians. In that era, the Company was a community dance group staging only two performances a year. Columbia City Ballet has increased its total number of major performances to more than 80 per year, reaching more than 51,000 people in a season. This year the Company will travel to 15 cities in three states and will present 22 full-length performances at the Koger Center.

Educational Outreach
Columbia City Ballet’s Educational Outreach Series is celebrating 16 years of educating children throughout the Southeast. All performances feature the professional dancers of the Columbia City Ballet and our award-winning production standards.

At only $4 per seat, this can’t-miss opportunity to learn about various dance forms, history and stagecraft is not only a wonderful learning experience but also a superb value. Students and adults of all ages are invited to attend a performance for the same low price.

Two weeks prior to every performance, Columbia City Ballet will send an educational packet to every registered teacher who has paid in full. Materials may include the history of ballet, informative games, ballet terms and information on proper ballet etiquette.

What teachers have said about these performances

Most performances last from 45 minutes to an hour, including a Q&A and demonstration session. Many performances sell out, so make your reservations early by calling Columbia City Ballet now!
