Named after the nation's first federal architect who designed the circa-1823 Robert Mills House and the circa-1828 Asylum, today's Robert Mills Historic District was listed in 1971 within the National Register of Historic Places as "Columbia Historic District II." The district contains approximately 113 historic structures that embody over three centuries of diverse residential and institutional architecture. Take the self-guided tour through the Robert Mills District, provided by the Historic Columbia Foundation, to see for yourself.
