It's almost that time of year that we've all been waiting for -- football season -- and with football season comes the Palmetto Capital City Classic! Fall is just around the corner, and this game is sure to bring excitement to the Columbia region.

September 3, 2011 will mark the 10th Annual Palmetto Capital City Classic, an ultimate college football experience. The Benedict College Tigers will take on the Virginia Union University Panthers at the Charlie W. Johnson Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 pm. The primary mission of the event is to generate revenue for scholarships and financial support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities by highlighting the educational and athletic endeavors through quality athletes, academic programs, sportsmanship and school pride.

"We are thrilled to be celebrating our 10th year," said Willie Jeffries, Collegiate Hall of Fame football coach and executive director of the Classic. "This game brings together so many individuals within and outside of our community, and I believe this year's success will be our best by far."
Not only does the Palmetto Capital City Classic bring you an entertaining football game, there are several activities planned surrounding the event for all ages.  Some of these events include the Jazz in the City concert, the Palmetto Capital City Class golf tournament, a low country broil and Beaufort stew party, a pre-game parade as well as a pre-game Hip Hop party.
