USMC Mud Run
The USMC Ultimate Challenge Mud Run is this weekend. It takes grit to make it through to the end, and there's plenty of grime to get through as well. So what makes the Mud Run worth it? Here are five reasons you should take the USMC's Ultimate Challenge.
1. The Mud Run knows how to party
The Mud Run is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year! How else would they celebrate except with an Ultimate After Party?  The bands will start at 1 pm and play all afternoon until the headliner JACKYL takes the stage at 8 pm.
2. You are running for TWO awesome causes
The Mud Run benefits Operation Enduring Warrior and The Greater Columbia Marine Foundation. Operation Enduring Warrior is a veteran operated non-profit whose mission is to honor, empower and motivate our wounded service members through a physical, mental and emotional rehabilitative cycle modeled for overcoming adversity and hardship through innovation, teamwork and perseverance. The Greater Columbia Marine Foundation aids injured marines and their families and sponsors community outreach programs in the Greater Columbia area.

3. The Mud Run is romantic
Ok, maybe not for everyone, but for Delana & Bryan pictured here – The Mud Run Finish Line is where she said, “Yes!”

4. Team work makes the dream work
To compete in the Mud Run, you must have a team of four and compete in one of the following categories:  Military, Homeland Heroes, JROTC, Corporate, Open Male, Open Female or Open Coed. With 36 challenging obstacles, it is very important to have your team by your side to push you through.
5. People love it!
I love the whole thing! The Fall one is always right around my birthday, so it’s a great way to celebrate.  The Mud Run challenges you in ways that you never would expect.” – Rob Romine
“I absolutely loved it - the challenge, and the fact that you’re in mud and on a team! You are sore for a week afterwards though!” –  Shae Savnik
Absolutely the best mud run I’ve ever done.  I loved the course, the obstacles, especially the Marines!  The event was well-organized from the parking through the t-shirt pickup.  The start method of starting by team number/time worked perfectly and was so much better than the usual random stampede at each wave.  It also helped to smooth out the course so there were no backups and delays at the obstacles, other than those caused BY the obstacles.  My team and I cannot wait until next year to come back and do it again.  I thought you deserved to hear from one, among many I’m sure, extremely happy Mud Runners.” – Ann Barzda
I’ve done it twice – LOVE it!!” – Kelli Avis
“I loved it!! Definitely make sure you do lots of arm strengthening exercises beforehand! Best part:  even though you had your own team, complete strangers helped you out too. The camaraderie was amazing. – Claire Lawracy

The USMC Ultimate Challenge Mud Run is a 6.2 mile course designed by a former Marine Drill Instructor that tests teams mentally and physically. Each year it takes athletes on a wild trek of running, jumping, pulling, climbing and crawling through 36 challenging obstacles in an effort to get to the finish line.
Did you miss registration?  No worries, there are two mud runs every year – in the fall and spring!
