More than 150 rowers from four college teams flocked to Columbia, SC this year for spring training. Boasting a year-round temperate climate idyllic for water sports, as well as an unobstructed, 3 mile stretch of the Broad River, the Columbia region is quickly becoming the top choice training destination for a number of prestigious rowing schools from all over the Northern United States.

Oars sliced through the smooth, glassy waters of the Broad River as the rowers from Georgetown, the University of Pennsylvania, Stony Brook University and Vassar College propelled themselves forward during the early months of the year for spring training in Columbia, SC. Each team stayed in the area for five or more days, taking full advantage of our more than 300 days of sunshine a year and visiting some of our world-class attractions like the South Carolina State House and Riverbanks Zoo & Garden.

Not far from the natural wonders of the Columbia region's three rivers and plethora of parks lies an urban, downtown scene full of shopping, art galleries, museums, mouthwatering restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. From training needs to fun things to do outside of the water, Columbia, SC has all the makings to be ‘The New Southern Hot Spot' for rowing!
