The Five Points Association is hosting a major event to honor Hootie and the Blowfish and their impact on Five Points, the 90's music scene, and Columbia today. Santee Avenue will be renamed to "Hootie Boulevard" and a major piece of public art will be unveiled at a press conference beginning at 4:00 pm at the corner of Santee Avenue and Harden Street. A free tribute concert featuring The Blue Dogs, Cravin' Melon, Patrick Davis, Treadmill Trackstar, Tootie and the Jones, Danielle Howle, the Soul Mites and Five Way Friday will follow at the Five Points Fountain at 6:30 pm. All four Hootie band members will be in attendance for the press conference on Santee and the tribute concert afterwards.

'Words can barely describe how excited we are, as we put the final touches on what will be a moment in time to remember. Having seen the public art piece grow from the beginning to where it is now, I am personally wowed by the creative vision of the artists and extremely excited about this piece of art forever gracing a soon-to-be-famous corner in Five Points. Please join us for the unveiling of this incredible piece of art and the honorary renaming of Santee Avenue. The press conference will be an event you shouldn't miss as we will be making history in this city. And of course, the tribute concert afterwards shouldn't be treated as second fiddle. It too, will be a night of memorable experiences. We hope to see you all in Five Points, as we pay tribute to a band who never forgot their roots.' - Merritt McHaffie, Five Points Association Executive Director
