From outdoor movies and concerts to special Father's Day events - there's tons of things to do in Columbia, SC this weekend. Here are just some of the weekend's highlights taking place June 15-17, 2012:


Movies in the Park
at North Springs Park
Grab your lawn chairs or a blanket and the entire family for this free outdoor movie event that is happening in Northeast Columbia this summer! This week's featured movie is Kung Fu Panda 2.
Free admission.Gates open at 7:30 pm, movie begins at sunset (approximately 8:30 pm)

Movies in the Park
at Finlay Park
One of the City of Columbia's top summertime events, the Summer Movie Series lets you enjoy blockbuster entertainment on the big screen while relaxing and enjoying family and friends under the stars. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets family, friends, and get set to have a good time with this week's feature, Gulliver's Travels. Free admission.

Southeastern Piano Festival
at USC School of Music & Koger Center for the Arts

The Southeastern Piano Festival at the University of South Carolina School of Music kicks off its 10th anniversary with a stellar lineup of concerts. Each June the Festival brings together 20 of the best young pianists from around the country for a rigorous program in piano studies. The week's events culminate with the Arthur Fraser International Concerto Competition. The Festival offers nightly concerts by a rich lineup of world-class pianists. With this being a special year, the Festival kicks off with a Piano Extravaganza with one to five pianists performing with the South Carolina Philharmonic. ZOOvie Night
at Riverbanks Zoo & Garden

Grab your lawn chair and enjoy family-friendly, outdoor movies at the Zoo! Concessions will be available for purchase. This week's featured movie is Zookeeper. More information.
Zoo opens at 7:00 PM, movie starts at dusk.


Rollin' on the River at Saluda Shoals Park
This river celebration includes a group paddle on the river, river tubing, a hot dog lunch and live music by the Blue Lagunas. Bring your own canoe or kayak or use one of theirs. During the trip down the river, participate in wild and fun activities. $5 in advance, $10 day of event. Registration is required for canoe or kayak rental. (803) 213-2056

Historic Columbia Foundation's Women of Hampton-Preston Tour
at Hampton-Preston Mansion & Garden
From the antebellum south through the roaring 20s, women and their roles in society changed drastically over the course of a century. This tour looks into the lives of the women who worked, played, and stayed in the Hampton-Preston Mansion and at the site. Each room in the mansion provides insight into the history and progress of women from the time it was occupied by families through the time it housed the Chicora College for Women. $6 for adults

"Pinocchio" at Columbia Marionette Theatre

Saturdays aren't just for cartoons. Grab the kids and enjoy a magical puppet show, featuring the classic tale of Pinocchio. Shows are held on Saturdays and the third Monday of each month. Pinocchio runs through August 4. Purchase tickets.

Movie Night - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
at City Roots Farm
It's a movie night at City Roots! We'll show Monty Python and the Holy Grail. If your kids 12 and under can stay out this late, they can get in free. There will be snacks, water, and adult beverages for sale. Don't forget to bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. $5 entry.
Movie will begin at 9:15 pm 

Sizzling Summer Concert Series 2012 at Finlay Park
This concert series features a variety of musicians from around the city and surrounding areas. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, dancing shoes and enjoy the sounds of summer, with beach music by Second Nature. Food and drink vendors will be available. Pets and glass containers not allowed. Free admission.

Columbia Blowfish Baseball
at Capital City Stadium

Take the family out to the ball game! Columbia Blowfish baseball team takes on Asheboro at Capital City Stadium. Bring the kids early (and with their ball and gloves) to play catch with the Blowfish team! View ticket information.
Gates open at 6:00 pm, Pre-game catch 6:10-6:30 pm, First pitch at 7:05 pm

Rhythm on the River
at West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheatre
Saturday's concert will feature Whisky Tango Revue. The Riverwalk Amphitheater is located at the corner of Meeting Street and Alexander Road, next to the Gervais Street Bridge. This is the last concert of the summer series.
Admission is free.

Columbia Blowfish Baseball
("Bark in the Park")
at Capital City StadiumPresented by Pawmetto Lifeline, Bring your dog to the ballpark on Sunday for a Doggy Parade on the field. Then watch the Blowfish take on Gastonia. Purchase tickets.
Doggy Parade begins at 5:45 pm, First pitch at 6:05 pm


Sunday Brunch & Jazz Series at Senate's End
Enjoy Southern Gourmet Brunch beginning at 10:30, followed by live jazz, food and beverages throughout the afternoon. Think Jazz Orchestra music begins at 1:30 pm with a $4 cover. View Historic Columbia Foundation's Dollar Sunday Admission at historic homes
Residents of Richland and Lexington Counties are invited to take a guided tour of one of our historic house museums for just $1! Visit the Robert Mills House, Hampton-Preston Mansion or the Mann-Simons Site. General admission prices apply for any house tours after the first.
