Celebrate art + Main Street + The Nick at First Thursdays
Main Street merchants open their doors late into the night for First Thursdays on Main Street, the once monthly art crawl + street festival. This month’s First Thursday is no joke – it’s packed with art on display at stores and restaurants, the grand opening of The Gallery at City Hall, the Before I Die Wall from One Columbia, Nickleodeon Theatre’s first birthday (on Main Street) and a pop-up beer garden from The Whig. So start at one end of Main Street and work your way through art, food, music and more tonight. Free.
First Thursdays on Main Street Thursday 6 - 10 pm
Stay classy with bourbon and bow ties
Some things are just truly Southern – like sipping bourbon and wearing bow ties! You can do both at the South Carolina State Museum’s Bourbon and Bowties event tonight, celebrating the last days of the museum’s popular exhibit, Between the Springmaid Sheets. The soon-to-be Bourbon Columbia will be serving up specialty cocktails and cuisine. You can take home a signature glass made by Mr. B’s Sustainable Glassworks. Purchase locally made bowties or turn an old necktie into a bowtie thanks to Cordial Churchmen. $40 admission for the general public.
And what’s Between the Springmaid Sheets, you ask? It’s an exhibit featuring the controversial ads of South Carolina’s own Springs Cotton Mills. The ads, featuring “Spring Maids,” turned the company from a struggling textile business into a bustling company.
Bourbon and Bowties at South Carolina State Museum Thursday 6 - 9 pm
