Hip, hip, hooray! There are always festivals and art around every corner in Columbia, SC. This weekend is no exception with elaborate gardening displays, odes to fried food, student theatre and international exhibits. Check out these famously hot happenings and more, in our round up below and our calendar of events.
The New Festival Hot Spot
Can't resist mac-stuffed wings or chicken and waffles? Sample both greasy, mobile eats and more at the first-ever South Carolina Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival. The Sparkleberry Country Fair is full of old-fashioned, family fun for a good cause. It's Istanbul not Constantinople! Spend an afternoon at the Istanbul Cultural Festival enjoying ethnic food, clothing, rugs and calligraphy. Where will you find both USC's Cocky AND Clemson's Tiger, this weekend? Both spirited animals will be having a ball at the 15th Annual Kid's Day of Lexington. Finally, celebrate vinyl with the 8th Annual Greater Columbia Record Fair Day, the largest market of the year to find your favorite classic records.
The New Artistic Hot Spot
Lights, camera, action! Walk the red carpet at the Midlands Senior Glitz and Glamour Gala. Artista Vista, the Midlands' most celebrated gallery crawl, is back with unique, local artists like One Eared Cow Glass. Embark on a trip down memory lane with SERCO and revered painter, John Green, at Prevue. Support the arts with two USC theatre productions of the Player King and the Three Musketeers. Bask in musical sunshine with the Columbia Baroque Concert "Spring Fling." Then, groove to the "Dick Goodwin Big Band," with dance band music, and popular tunes from the present to the 40's though the 90's. Calling all green thumbs! Celebrate the arrival of spring with Historic Columbia's 2015 Gardening Symposium. Finally, sample the sweet and symphonic at "Concertos and Cupcakes" Concert and Reception.
