Colleges & Universities
August in Columbia means thousands of students will pour into the area, filling the community with a thriving college scene that puts a smile on the faces of residents and visitors. The students are part of the reason Columbia is such a progressive area. The impact of these colleges and universities ripples throughout the community, changing the way Columbia looks and what Columbia is. More than half a billion dollars in infrastructure investment is on the books and ready to transform a river corridor, significant sites and community gateways into a destination you'll want to visit and won't want to miss. Plans for a multi-million dollar project planned by the University of South Carolina (USC), to include a new baseball stadium along the Congaree River, 47 acres of greenspace and a center for research that will rival any on the East Coast, caused one University trustee to say that it "will turn this mid-size city into a world-class destination."
